Law enforcement agencies are encouraged to participate in an annual employment survey by December 4. As part of the Uniform Crime Reporting program, the survey asks agencies to report the number of employees (sworn and civilian) by type (full or part-time) and by gender. The information is used by OJA in publications and by the the FBI to make state-by-state comparisons.
Survey results from the 2008 survey found that:
- Wisconsin law enforcement agencies employed a total of 18,697 full-time positions (sworn and civilian)
- of these, 13,051 were sworn positions (73%)
- there were 3.32 law enforcement employees for every 1,000 Wisconsin residents (compared to a national average of 3.58 per 1,000)
Take the ONLINE survey or download a copy and return it by fax or mail. We'd appreciate your response no later than Friday, December 4.
