$3.3 Million Awarded for Youthful Offender Prevention activities

University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. ($443,252). UW Hospitals and Clinics, in collaboration with the Dane County Juvenile Court, the Dane County Jail, and alternative schools, will use funds to provide alcohol and drug assessments and treatment to high risk teens (aged 14-20) that are not eligible for AODA treatment services.

Bridges for Youth. ($450,000). These funds will be used to initiate and sustain high-quality mentoring relationships among at-risk youth ages 14-17 in Adams, Marquette, and Waushara Counties.  An alliance between Bridges for Youth and the County Departments of Human Services, the project will integrate professional mentors into wraparound and in-home therapy county services, to provide one-on-one, group, and team mentoring services with strong parent/family engagement and bonding.

Nova Services. ($409,098) Funds will be used to initiate and expand programming to prevent delinquency in 14-19 year old male and female students in Washington County through; truancy intervention programming, supervised community service, crime impact panels, and the development of job skills and work experience that will support future employment.

Safe & Sound, Inc. ($411,403) Funds will be used to increase youth crime prevention and intervention programs for youth 14-25 in selected Milwaukee neighborhoods. The project will increase youth leadership skills and engagement in crime prevention by training youth leaders and assisting with youth-led projects.  Projects will address alcohol and drug use, truancy, violence and gang participation in Milwaukee. The project will also conduct community conferencing with young offenders, victims, family members, community residents, and youth leaders and mobilize neighborhood resources to reduce crime and build stronger relationships among youth, residents and law enforcement.

Ashland County. ($447,831) The funds will be used to continue the Ashland County juvenile offender prevention initiative that includes a juvenile drug court program as well as programs for intervention and referral to treatment and strengthening families.

Bayfield County. ($441,880) Funds will be used to establish a mentor, community service and behavioral therapy program for juvenile offenders. Cooperation between the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Bayfield County District Court, District Attorney and Human Services will support referrals to these diversionary services. 

Latino Community Center. ($404,298) Funds will be used to implement a science based, culturally specific, life skills and job readiness program in the central city areas of Milwaukee. The program’s goal is to train youth to effectively manage challenges of everyday life through the development of responsible attitudes and behaviors, successfully integrate into the workforce, and pursue long-term career goals.

Dodge County. ($369,130) Funds will be used by Dodge County Human Services Department, Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan, Inc., and Wisconsin Family Ties to provide a truancy prevention and intervention program.
