The Information We Collect
The Office of Justice Assistance collects information from users in a number of different ways either directly or indirectly. Users' IP (Internet Protocol) addresses are automatically logged by our web server. This information is used by us for statistical analysis, for example, to evaluate interest in our website.

We collect e-mail addresses and other contact details or information which visitors voluntarily provide in order to receive information about our programs, grants, or other OJA resources.

If You Send Us Personal Information
We strive to protect personally identifiable information by collecting only information necessary to deliver our services. You do not have to provide any personal information to visit this website. If you choose to provide us with personal information, such as by sending a message to an e-mail address on this website or by filling out a form and submitting it through our website, we will use that information to respond to your message or to fulfill the stated purpose of the communication. The Office of Justice Assistance does not collect or use information for commercial marketing.

You should be aware that all information collected at this site becomes subject to Wisconsin’s Public Records law and may be subject to inspection and copying by the public unless an exemption in law exists. In the event of a conflict between this Privacy Policy and the Wisconsin Public Records Law or other law governing the disclosure of records, the Wisconsin Public Records Law or other applicable law will control.

Cookies
"Cookies" are small bits of text that are either used for the duration of a session ("session cookies"), or saved on a user's hard drive in order to identify that user, or information about that user, the next time the user logs on to a website ("persistent cookies"). The OJA website does not use persistent cookies. The secure areas of our site (grant applications) use session cookies to provide streamlined navigation. These session cookies are deleted from our server soon after your session ends and are not collected or saved. You can set up your web browser to inform you when cookies are set or to prevent cookies from being set. You can still use our website if you do not accept the cookies, but you may be unable to use certain cookie-dependent features.

Security
For site security purposes and to ensure that this site remains available to all users, the OJA website employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Anyone using this website expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such monitoring reveals evidence of possible abuse or criminal activity, such evidence will be provided to appropriate law enforcement officials. Unauthorized attempts to upload or change information on this server are strictly prohibited and may be punishable by law, including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act of 1996.
