
The Office of Justice Assistance provides training and technical assistance to law enforcement, prosecutors and first responders. Programs are funded by federal grant funds and are offered free of charge to qualified participants. In many cases, scholarships are available to cover travel, lodging and meal expenses.

Justice System Training Program
OJA's Justice System Training (JST) Program, funded through Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) discretionary and formula grants, provides specialized training on domestic violence and sexual assault to law enforcement, prosecutors and court personnel. Training is offered free of charge (including travel expenses, lodging and meals) and can be customized to meet the unique needs of your agency. The JST Advisory Committee plays a crucial role as it guides and directs the programs efforts to provide timely and accurate training to the justice system statewide. Investigating Domestic Abuse: This training covers crime scene response, evidence recovery and collection, new laws, including mandatory arrest updates restraining orders, predominant aggressor identification, offender behavior;and dual arrest (See participant comments).

Advanced Sexual Assault & Domestic Abuse Training: This 8-hour training covers changes in Wisconsin domestic violence and sexual assault laws and the implications for law enforcement and prosecutors. Topics include Wisconsin's legislative changes to sexual assault and domestic violence laws, confronting the consent defense in sexual assault cases, gathering crime scene evidence (including medical forensic evidence), the Crawford decision and police report documentation, liability issues and constructive notice.

National Sexual Assault Training & Capacity Building Project: Conducted by the Oregon Attorney General Sexual Assault Task Force, the training is broken into two days:
- Day 1: Non-Stranger Sexual Assault Response & Investigation provides basic and intermediate information on sexual assault dynamics, law enforcement response, preliminary investigation, victim interviewing and evidence collection and use. Ideal for law enforcement who need to develop core skills and knowledge related to sexual assault response and investigation.
- Day 2: Identifying Sex Offenders - Tools for Interview & Interrogation Identifying Sex Offenders provides law enforcement with current research on sex offender typologies within the context of identifying the most effective strategies for interviewing and investigation. Ideal for law enforcement professionals who have experience investigating sexual assault.
