
The Office of Justice Assistance provides training and technical assistance to law enforcement, prosecutors and first responders. Programs are funded by federal grant funds and are offered free of charge to qualified participants. In many cases, scholarships are available to cover travel, lodging and meal expenses.

Justice System Training Program
OJA's Justice System Training (JST) Program, funded through Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) discretionary and formula grants, provides specialized training on domestic violence and sexual assault to law enforcement, prosecutors and court personnel. Training is offered free of charge (including travel expenses, lodging and meals) and can be customized to meet the unique needs of your agency. The JST Advisory Committee plays a crucial role as it guides and directs the programs efforts to provide timely and accurate training to the justice system statewide. Advanced Sexual Assault & Domestic Abuse Training: This 8-hour training covers changes in Wisconsin domestic violence and sexual assault laws and the implications for law enforcement and prosecutors. Officer-involved Domestic Violence: Training to Improve the Response to Victims of Officer-involved Domestic Violence: This training addresses the unique challenges faced when investigating officer-involved domestic violence and the impact on victims. We will explore the dynamics and complexities of police-perpetrated domestic violence and strategies to enable effective investigation. Participants will:
- Examine the culture of law enforcement, its subsequent impact on police attitudes and response toward violence against women
- Explore how we can minimize negative consequences and best serve victims and their families
- Identify ways to secure the safety of victims of officer-involved domestic violence, including victims who are officers
