The Sex Offender Apprehension and Felony Enforcement Initiative (SAFE) is Governor Jim Doyle’s program to strictly enforce Wisconsin law to protect kids and keep our communities safe from sex offenders. Through SAFE, local, state and federal justice agencies are pooling resources and coordinating activities to:
-
Hold sex offenders accountable for their actions
-
Prevent sex offenders from becoming anonymous in our communities
-
Apprehend and prosecute offenders who fail to report their whereabouts to authorities
The SAFE Team is a small group of former law enforcement investigators (located at OJA) and DOC sex offender registry specialists. The team's mission is to hunt down sex offenders that go missing. To date, the Safe Team has located over 3,200 noncompliant sex offenders, including 88 of the state's Most Wanted.
Is there a sex offender living in your neighborhood? Find out by searching the Department of Correction's Sex Offender Registry
